25th of March

As Martin Luther King  Jr. leads a group of 25,000 to the state capital Montgomery Alabama, and delivery the speech “How Long, Not Long” in 1965, four years later John Lennon and Yoko Ono stage a bed-in for peace in Amsterdam.

Not less important before that in 1942, Aretha Franling is born in Memphis, Tennessee. Commonly referred to as “The Queen of Soul” Franklin is one of the most honored artists by the Grammy Awards, with 20 Grammys to date. Respect, Baby I Love You, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman, Chain Of Fools and (Sweet Sweet Baby) Since You’ve Been Gone were fine examples of her portfolio.

In 1947, 20 years before “The Who” performs its first concert in New York, Sir Reginald Kenneth Dwight (Elton John) is born in Pinner, Middlesex, England. The Rocket man has been one of the dominant forces in rock and popular music, he has sold over 200 million records.

I’m pretty much convince about Victor Hugo’s quote : “Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and cannot remain silent”,  therefore…. It’s time to say good bye.

A Big Hug to Benicassim 2009

Benicassim 2009

FBI Heineken have confirmed yesterday the line up for Benicassim 2009. The Spain’s biggest indie Music festival plays host each summer to more than 100 artists who come to perform across its 4 stages.  This year is particularly special for me since one of my favorite Band “TV On The Radio” Will be sharing the stage with “The Killers” and  “White Lies”.

Kings Of Leon make a welcome return to the hugely popular Spanish bash, and are joined by some heavyweights headliners. People making the flight over can expect Oasis, Franz Ferdinand and Paul Weller. :)

The Benicassim Festival takes place between 13th and 21st July 2009, with music from Thu July 16th 2009.

It’s an unmissable event….. further details Here

TV On The Radio the American band formed in 2001 in New York City will be on stage on Sunday 19th and as they mention once: “A lot of bands have something to say,” explains TV On The Radio producer/multi-instrumentalist David Sitek. “We have something to ask.”

The Art of Cropping

The Art of cropping

Sometimes cropping a picture in post processing can improve it dramatically. Cropping can be used to:

* Enlarge the main subject
* Eliminate things that distract attention from the subject
* Change the format to fit a standard frame size

If you are deciding to crop out part of the subject, then crop boldly. It should be clear to anyone looking at the picture that you have intended the crop. Always try to avoid breaking the line of the frame with strong shapes, such a windows or even clouds wherever possible. Remember as well what you crop out of a picture can be almost as important as what you decide to include.

It is best to compose correctly in camera, if you can, but it is inevitable that you will sometimes take a picture with a poor composition. In these instances, post-production by cropping the image. Essentially, this is the same as zooming and cropping in camera, although if you do it on a computer you will lost quality, as you will be throwing away some of the image information.

You will find a funny example showing why sometimes is important to crop your pictures here. Cropping in close on picture can exclusive distracting backgrounds and create more emphatic image. :D

Children of the corn

I love classic horror movies and specially horror film music, that’s why I’m writing about Jonathan Elias. The American composer will be producing the sound track for a new film called Fighting and an upcoming TV movie “Children of the corn“. The TV Movie will be premier later this year on the SCI FI Channel. Jonathan was the composer of the original themes used in 1984’s “Children of the Corn” .

Children of the corn is a short story by Stephen kind published in 1978 and adapted into film as a horror movie. Directed by Fritz Kiersch the film tells the story of a demoniac force that possesses the children in a fictional Nebraska town, causing them to murder the town’s adults. I’ve found the complete movie on google,  and definitively represent a good reference about Jonathan’s work.

So if you really like Classic Horror movies,  this is a good chance to see it for free :D

Fighting is an upcoming action film in which Elias is currently producing the original music soundtrack.  Written by Robert Munic and Dito Montiel the film is about realizing dreams of glory, putting audiences ringside at high-stakes underground street fights. Not really a horror movie but maybe we have to wait for a bite to see the premier later this year.  :)

BuzzFest Tickets 2009 go on sale today. The event is on May 10 and acts include KORN, Blue October, 311, Theory of a Deadman, Hoobastank, the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and  a mystery guest that is sure to please, but you have to get your tickets and wait till the event to find out who it is!  :)

This music festival held in Houston @ Woodlands Pavilion Spring, TX  US,  and  It’s a bi-annual show hosted by the radio Station 94.5 The Buzzzzzzzz.

Buzzfest not only allows bands to get their big break but always draws in some of the top bands in the Alternative genre every year. Though Alternative has certainly changed since the first festival.  Genres ranging from Grunge to Nu-Metal and beyond, but no brand of music has flourished on the stage like the Post-Grunge style. Newly arrived styles like Indie Rock have recently made a big mark at Buzzfest.  :)

My rock alternative preference goes to 311, a band formed in 1988 which musical structure incorporates a variety of musical styles including alternative rock, Hip hop, ska, reggae and Funk.

Like A Rolling Stone in City Hall (1966)

We now know that the new Bob Dylan album, which unexpectedly will be with us on April 27, is called Together Through Life. We know also that it was written and recorded quickly.

For millions he’s the greatest songwriter ever, to others always just been who sounds like he sings through his nose. But definitively for those who know his music will probably tell you Bob Dylan is one of the titans of Popular Music.

Celebrating his new album on april and facing prostets over smelly portable toilet outside his home today,  the american singer-songwriter keep saying he preferred the art and book industries, which he decribed as more dinified.

Bob Dylan will perform at Rothbury in Michigan in July. This four-day festival, from July 2-5, will feature dozens of artists, including The Dead, Willie Nelson, and Broken Social Scene.

Most Dylan’s fans would cite  the 60’s  as the most celebrated work dates, so It’s time to show a Phenomenal 1966 performance of Like A Rolling Stone in City Hall, Newcastle ( props to Country Jim). Dylan is absolutely manic, you must-watch.

1981

The mighty Dangermouse Tv Program, Porky’s, the American Pie of the 80’s and the year when MTV went to air inspired me to write this short post about 1981.  Despite the Pope John Paul II was wounded by gunman and Bob Marley died of cancer at the age of 36, 1981 was remarkable as the primitive Internet report was born.  Fortunately this review is just about music (the highest chart position) and not an epitome review of dumb futurism in 1981  :)

The Biggest Hits Singles in 1981.

The Third:

The Londoner songwriter, drummer and best known as the lead singer of the English Progressive rock group Genesis reached the top 20 on the Billboard magazine pop singles chart in the summer of 1981 with this song:

The second:

Soft Cell, an English duo formed in Leeds, England in 1978. Often focused on love, romance, kinky sex, plastic surgery and transsexualism ( Main subject from the 80’s POP culture) Soft Cell cracked the US Top 40 with “Tainted Love” and eventually reached #8 for 43 weeks on the Billboard Hot Chart. Not Bad for a Guinness World Record for the longest consecutive stay on the U.S Billboard hot 100 chart.

The first Place:

Her raspy voice and Grammy awards American Singer Kim Carnes hits the charts with “Betty Davis Eyes”. This single became the highest seller of 1981 and was also a number one hit in 31 countries.  If you are in your late twenties probably you will remember this awe-inspiring song.

So It’s a good moment to start celebrating 1981 and be part of this retro cult. :)
