The Milky Road

June 27, 2009 by admin

I was reading about astrophotography this morning when found this beautiful composition of our Milky way by Larry Landolfi. I’m quite fascinated with galaxies in fact, therefore why not to describe our connexion with It using famous quotes. :)

Who are we? We find that we live on an insignificant planet of a humdrum star lost in a galaxy tucked away in some forgotten corner of a universe in which there are far more galaxies than people.

When you look at the stars and the galaxy, you feel that you are not just from any particular piece of land, but from the solar system.

Our sun is one of 100 billion stars in our galaxy. Our galaxy is one of billions of galaxies populating the universe. It would be the height of presumption to think that we are the only living things in that enormous immensity.

“The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It’s an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.”

Alec Guinness :)

“The universe contains vastly more order than Earth-life could ever demand. All those distant galaxies, irrelevant for our existence, seem as equally well ordered as our own.

”Paul Davies

“It is marvelous indeed to watch on television the rings of Saturn close; and to speculate on what we may yet find at galaxy’s edge. But in the process, we have lost the human element; not to mention the high hope of those quaint days when flight would create ”one world.” Instead of one world, we have ‘’star wars,” and a future in which dumb dented human toys will drift mindlessly about the cosmos long after our small planet’s dead.”

Gore Vidal

Sherlock Holmes

Probably It’s a bit early to write about Sherlock Holmes but I’ve just checked the preview and seems to me a really new dynamic portrayal of Arthur Conan Doyle’s most famous characters.

The fictional character of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries who first appeared in publication in 1887 will be in theaters again on 25th of December 2009, and hopefully I’ll be there :) .

According to my brief research Conan Doyle wrote four novels and fifty-six short stories that feature Holmes. All but four stories are narrated by Holmes’s friend and biographer, Dr John H. Watson; two are narrated by Sherlock Holmes himself, and two others are written in the third person.

It’s an interesting cast and you can check further details HERE

Robert Downey Jr. … Sherlock Holmes

Jude Law … Dr. John Watson

Rachel McAdams … Irene Adler

Mark Strong … Lord Blackwood

Sherlock Holmes sends Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson on their latest challenge. Revealing fighting skills as lethal as his legendary intellect, Holmes will battle as never before to bring down a new nemesis and unravel a deadly plot that could destroy the country ( IMDb review). I think this is the final case like in 1914. Well I’m not an expert but looks quite entertaining.

And if you are in London, step back in time and visit the 221b Baker Street, The Official Home of Sherlock Holmes .

From “Acca Dacca” or “alternating current/direct current” ( AD/DC),  Angus and George Young both from Glasgow, Scotland, will be playing alongside with Cliff Williams, Phil Rudd and Brian Johnson @ the Wembley Stadium on 26th of June. :)

With more than 200 million albums sold worldwide, including 71 million albums only in the United States, the Aussie rockers will stage a third Melbourne concert as well after 110,000 tickets to their first two shows, which were sold out in only 45 minutes last Monday. :)

Probably knowing how good this band is ;) and you really want to attend this concert in London just like me, click Here , otherwise for further details about the world Tour, check their Myspace page.

For more probably you will find their official Website really helpful, they’ve got a really cool intro.

The single “Let there be rock” released in March 1977, provides an encapsulated, fictionalised version of the history of rock ‘n’ roll. Build from a line of the Chuck Berry song “Roll Over Beethoven” according to Wikipedia, the song has been included on three of the band’s five official live albums: If You Want Blood You’ve Got It” (sung by Bon Scott), Live: 2 CD Collector’s Edition (sung by Scott’s replacement Brian Johnson, 1992),  Let There Be Rock: The Movie (Scott, 1979), released in 1997 as part of the Bonfire (album) box set, and Stiff Upper Lip Tour Edition (Johnson, “2001″ ) with the last recorded from Plaza de Toros in Madrid from 1996.  I have found this Video which is an unedited version of “Let there be rock”…. I hope you like it!

Fuji Festival

May 27, 2009 by admin

Niigata-shi (新潟市,) is the capital and the most populous city of Niigata Prefecture, Japan. The city is sometimes called the “City of Water”(水の都 Mizu-no-miyako) because of the two rivers that flow through it. Probably you’re wondering why I’m writing about a city located in a region called Chūbu (which means “central region”) in the middle of Japan. Well Fuji Rock Festival, an annual rock festival, will be held in Naeba Ski Resort, in Niigata Prefecture, Japan on the 24th, 25th, 26th of July. This 3 days event features about 250 Japanese and international musicians every year, making it the largest outdoor music event in Japan. What I like about this annual festival It’s the fact that the organizers proudly calls the event as “the cleanest festival in the world, promising clean toilets and showers, and no litter” Nice :)

Really well organized, they asking you to remember: Independence’, ‘Cooperation’ and ‘Respect of nature’ are the keys to fully enjoy this festival. Let’s do it together! ( Their Slogan).

This year the festival is featuring Oasis, Franz Ferdinand and Weezer. The Per-date lineup announced Dove, ASA-CHANG & JUNREI, BRAHMAN, DJ TIM HEALEY. For further details about the Fuji festival, line up and Various tour packages click Here .

This is the official Poster for the festival: :)

As you may know by now, Red Hot Chilly Pepper have disbanded for at least a year according Anthony Kiedis’s declaration to Rollins Stone last week, so It’s a good moment to show here this short Intro at the Fuji Rock 2006, hope you like it.

Buzzfest tickets 2009

BuzzFest Tickets 2009 go on sale today. The event is on May 10 and acts include KORN, Blue October, 311, Theory of a Deadman, Hoobastank, the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and  a mystery guest that is sure to please, but you have to get your tickets and wait till the event to find out who it is!  :)

This music festival held in Houston @ Woodlands Pavilion Spring, TX  US,  and  It’s a bi-annual show hosted by the radio Station 94.5 The Buzzzzzzzz.

Buzzfest not only allows bands to get their big break but always draws in some of the top bands in the Alternative genre every year. Though Alternative has certainly changed since the first festival.  Genres ranging from Grunge to Nu-Metal and beyond, but no brand of music has flourished on the stage like the Post-Grunge style. Newly arrived styles like Indie Rock have recently made a big mark at Buzzfest.  :)

My rock alternative preference goes to 311, a band formed in 1988 which musical structure incorporates a variety of musical styles including alternative rock, Hip hop, ska, reggae and Funk.
